Tutorial #1 - Unusual Sig Tutorial

This is the first in a series of tutorials by Cozalli.co.uk, feel free to post your results :)

Click the image to view it full sized.

1. Create a new document, I’m using 500 x 400.

2. Fill the layer with Grey, then create a new layer (Ctrl + Shift + N)

3. On the new layer, select the rectangular marquee tool (M) and create a rectangle shape in the middle of your document.

4. Fill this shape with white (Alt + Backspace).

5. Deselect the layer (ctrl + D) then right click the layer in the layers window.

6. Select blending options.

7. Apply the following settings

Inner Shadow

Drop Shadow

8. Create a new layer (Ctrl + Shift + N) then select the previous layer (layer 2) with the Magic Wand Tool (W)

9. Then whilst still selected go to layer 3 and fill it with grey (I’m using #d2d2d2) (Alt + Backspace)

10. Change the opacity of layer 3 to 15%

11. Then use the polygon lasso tool (L) to draw a shape like in the picture. Hint - Use the SHIFT key to draw straight lines with the polygon lasso tool.

12. Delete the area selected away from Layer 3.

13. Deselect the layer ( Ctrl + D )

14. Now merge layers 2 & 3 together by pressing Ctrl + E

15. Now once merged, the two layers have become one (called layer 2)

16. With layer 2 selected use the Elliptical Marquee, and delete the section you selected.

17. Create a new layer beneath Layer 2, and create some sort of brush montage here. (like in the picture)

Hint - Find links to brushes here (click)

18. Select the layer you just used the brushes on (layer 3) and press Ctrl + U

19. Click ‘Colorize’ and play with the settings until you are happy with the result, Hue changes the colour, Saturation changes the colours intensity, and lightness changes the lightness.

20. Add your text and play around with the settings to suit you.

You can always cut away the brush layer and just leave it showing from where the circle is cut out.
